I saw the first hummingbird when I was a child, not a living one but a stuffed one in the school I was attending. This school and the belonging boarding school was led by nuns and they had some showcases with different stuffed animals from South America. I love the hummingbird most, in Germany we say Kolibri to it, and I was fascinated about this tiny little bird with these beautiful colors. I loved it instantly and wanted to see one in nature one day.

I had to wait nearly 40 years for this but when I visited New Mexico twice, 2008 and 2009, I could finally see and also hear them. I made this picture together with others in May 2009, it was an information center near the memorial stone for Geronimo, the great Chiricahua Apache Chief. It was such a lovely view and sound, their humming, I loved it.
